Snacks for A Daniel Fast


You may discover that you don’t stay full for very long on a Daniel fast. Here are a few mid-meal snacks that may help you over the hump:


Nuts and Raisins-Great little pick me up packed with nutrients and flavor. Choose any kind of nuts (pecans, almonds, peanuts, etc.)


Santitas brand tortilla chips & Fritos brand corn chips-These are all natural with no preservatives. There are probably other brands as well, just check the labels.


Salsa-Many salsas are all natural and contain no preservatives. Some will sneak in some sugar though so check the label. Wal-mart brand Thick and Chunky is excellent and all natural.


Fruits-Try a banana or an apple, orange or grapefruit, and don’t be afraid to try something new.


Guacamole Dip-yes, you read that right, this recipe for guacamole dip is all natural and completely legal!


  1. 4 avocados

  2. 1 tsp garlic powder (or real garlic)

  3. 2 tsp chili powder

  4. 1 tsp sea salt

  5. 1 tsp cumin

  6. 2 Roma tomatoes


  7. Mash avocados with a fork until smooth. Stir in spices, fold in tomatoes. Great with chips and/or salsa!


Corn salad-Great with chips or as a side dish. Very flexible dish and can be adjusted to taste.


  1. 1 can of petite diced tomatoes

  2. 1 can of diced tomatoes and green chiles with cilantro & lime

  3. 1 can of black beans (or black-eyed peas)

  4. 1 can of corn (drained)

  5. Diced green or red pepper to taste

  6. Diced apple to taste

  7. Diced onion to taste

  8. Salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste


  9. Simply add ingredients and toss together.


Simple Fruit Smoothie-Great for breakfast or a quick snack.


  1. 1/2 cup soy milk

  2. 1 banana

  3. 1/2 cup frozen berries


  4. Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. You can also add silken tofu to boost the protein, or any other fruits to add to the minerals.


Tropical Hawaiian Smoothie-Great for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up or for breakfast.


  1. 10 fresh strawberries

  2. 3 slices unsweetened pineapples

  3. 2 ripe kiwis

  4. 1/2 ripe cantaloupes

  5. 1/3 cup unsweetened pineapple juice

  6. 4 cubes ice


  7. Peel and cut all fruits into smaller pieces and place into blender. Add pineapple juice and blend until smooth. Add ice and blend again. You could also freeze it to make an ice treat for the children.
